Russian Ukraine Invasion |
Not an indictment of RU.
I think I’ve reached my limit for war videos. Bombs dropping on some scared kid’s head isn’t doing it for me anymore. Remember a moment from Pierre Berton’s book Vimy when a Canadian soldier recounted a scene from No Man’s Land. The Germans are unaware of his presence and one by one our Johnny Canuck picks them off until he thinks to himself, ‘I just can’t do this anymore’ and stops. I’m kind of there right now just watching the stuff. Perhaps if a drone is dropping a bomb on the Kremlin or Vlad’s house then I’d be interested. I understand the passion some people have and I like to see a bully receive some Karma but repeatedly watching some peach-fuzzed faced mother’s son getting whacked in a war not of his choosing has become something similar to an overdose of CNN on the telly…Click. Remember one account from a veteran about a blond-haired kid who was doggedly crawling across the ground toward the fallen tree trunk (or whatever) he was shielding himself behind. No warning shots and shouts deterred him. Eventually, when the kid was literally upon him, he had to kill him. He was haunted by the sight of brains leaking out of that angelic-looking head for years. Quote:[...] Perhaps if a drone is dropping a bomb on the Kremlin or Vlad’s house then I’d be interested. In terms of aid to Ukraine and media promotion slash allegiance to the latter, this is a war or counteroffensive fueled and cheered-on by progressives (Biden and company's) and their equivalents elsewhere. Neither the far-left nor the far-right are into the conflict, and [legit] conservatives are lukewarm at best (nervous about the weapon stockpiles at home being depleted, etc). Despite that, however, no part of the West that still has a few screws tightened would have felt good about the Kremlin's old-time nationalist ambitions potentially being rekindled if Kyiv had fallen easily to Putin. (OTOH, the ensuing humiliation might be used by Vlad's replacement in the future as an incentive to bolster Russian might, just as Hitler used Germany's supposed debasement at the hands of the Treaty of Versailles to rally the population to his will and power ascension.)
i suspect that iran has already agreed to supply russia with long range ballistic missiles(& russia may have some already) and russia is likely to use them in the middle of winter.

I plead guilty to taking pleasure early in the war to seeing Russian tanks being blown up by Javelins and Stugnas. Even then I was aware that there were 3 or 4 young men in each one being burned alive. Perhaps I figured the more tanks the Ukrainians could knock out, the better the chances of Ukraine preserving its independence and the shorter the war might be. Besides, if the Ukrainians didn't try to kill them, they would try to kill Ukrainian soldiers. That's the situation. But when I saw that drone dropping grenades on a wounded Russian laying in a trench who was threatening noone, and watching him throw each grenade away from him before it exploded, had me cheering for that guy. I can imagine if it was me... I hope he survived and goes home to his family. (But he won't be the same kid he was when he left.) I don't blame the Ukrainians for trying to kill as many Russian soldiers as they can. They are in a war after all, fighting for their country. Ukraine's strength and determination has been an inspiration to us all. But I don't enjoy watching young men die either... I don't want to cheer their deaths. Perhaps that's why the Ukrainian soldiers call Russian soldiers "Orcs". Because it dehumanizes them and makes it harder to think that guy over there is a young man just like me, just as scared as me, with hopes, dreams, a family, and we might even have been friends in better times. It is said by some that outbreaks of peace were a major problem especially during WW1. When each side trusts the other that when they lay down their weapons they will be well treated - that is something to be aimed for. Difficult - sometimes beyond the ability of of man - but still a thing to try for because if you don't you have already lost.

Orcs putting dragons teeth on the beaches of crimea & digging trenches in the beach to defend against ukrainian secret bio-weapons lab duck attack. some talk is that this shows the russian black sea fleet has been strategically defeated. |
