Any Truth in This?

I’ve heard of nuclear winters cooling things off but first time I’ve seen an article expressing a concern about nuclear testing being the main cause of global warming? Makes me wonder if this is pure bunk. If it is true than kudos to all those who protest nuclear testing and banning the nuke.

Even pre-industrial human activity disrupted the ice age cycle that otherwise would have resumed: Ancient farmers spared us from glaciers but profoundly changed Earth's climate.

But a claim that nuclear testing is the "main cause" of global warming would surely be daft. The only out for use of "leading cause" in the title might be if "leading" instead means the first sign or forefront trigger of irregularities (after 1945) in the rate of climb.

Granted, nuclear testing probably contributed to some degree, just as any attempt by humans to survive in a non-nomadic (hunter-gatherer) manner contributes. There is no way to achieve holy purity or be completely free of climate sin without giving up all vestiges of civilization.

List of nuclear weapons tests: There have been 2,121 tests done since the first in July 1945, involving 2,476 nuclear devices. As of 1993, worldwide, 520 atmospheric nuclear explosions (including 8 underwater) have been conducted with a total yield of 545 megaton (Mt): 217 Mt from pure fission and 328 Mt from bombs using fusion, while the estimated number of underground nuclear tests conducted in the period from 1957 to 1992 is 1,352 explosions with a total yield of 90 Mt.

Conclusion: Through the statistical analysis of change in CO2 and fuel consumption, we detected irregular and asymmetrical patterns after 1945 indicating the presence of an alternate source for the surge in global carbon concentrations. The genesis of this uneven pattern was the underground testing of nuclear weapons which commenced post-1945. The chart that we plotted from the statistical analysis of C02 data from NOAA picked up significant energy emission events like the 1971 Cannikin test in Alaska and every underground nuclear test 2006 to present. Most signals were generated by underground nuclear testing, and the results of the statistical analysis demonstrate beyond doubt that nuclear testing caused a change in CO2 levels thereby inducing global warming. This timeline (Figure 8) shows all the forces that are currently or have affected climate change. Had all the climatologists and scientists known about these data, I’m sure that a different conclusion, other than hitting a CO2 threshold, would have emerged.

It seems to say no and presents a few arguments.

Thanks geo, love the skeptics. Still surprised to learn about how many test nukes have been detonated since ‘45. I guess it’s like those guys who drive a high performance car at allowable maximums yet can’t resist pushing the pedal down on occasion, even if in a school zone.
